109-2-seminar 6/10 Catalyst engineering towards efficient and selective solar-to-fuel conversion

2021.06.07

Speaker: Prof. Chia-Yu Lin

Title:

Catalyst engineering towards efficient and selective solar-to-fuel conversion

Abstract:

Oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is an important but easily overlooked half-reaction for the generation of solar fuels. OER provides the necessary electrons and protons for proton reduction into hydrogen and for CO2 reduction into hydrocarbons. However, OER is kinetically sluggish and the produced oxygen is of limited value. The oxidative conversions of renewable biomass and chemical waste have been proposed as the promising alternative reaction to OER. This talk will starts with our recent progress on the development of calcium iron oxide OER electrocatalysts for seawater splitting. In addition to OER electrocatalyst, the electrosynthesis and applications of nickel phosphide for photoelectrochemical plastics reforming will also be included in this talk.
